Celebrating a Record Year in 2020

Even amid a global crisis, Books For Africa is creating cause for celebration! With a recent shipment to Kenya, we celebrated 3.3 million books shipped in fiscal year 2020, which is a record year in BFA history.

Books For Africa is pleased to have seen consistent growth in number of books shipped in recent years, allowing our programs to have a wider reach and a greater impact. While the numbers are growing, feedback from recipients remains consistently positive, with beneficiaries overwhelmingly reporting that the books they received are high quality and will promote literacy in their community.

This milestone comes at a time when books are needed more than ever. With many shipments going to benefit schools and learning communities, we hope to close the education gap being created by school shutdowns across the continent due to the Covid-19 pandemic. And with our strategic partnerships with major medical publishers like Merck, we are working to get medical professionals and health care workers the resources they need to fight this and other pandemics affecting Africa.

This year, BFA is on track to ship its 50 millionth book in its 32-year history. A luncheon is currently planned for the fall with the Ambassador of Ghana to the U.S., His Excellency Dr. Barfuor Adjei-Barwuah, to celebrate the achievements behind us and look down the road ahead.
