Books For Africa Partners with MoneyGram to get Books to Kids in Ghana
Back in August of 2021, Books For Africa worked with MoneyGram to fund a 40-foot container of books for Global Kids Organisation (GKO) in Ghana, and recently heard back with feedback and photos from the distribution!
GKO’s mission is to eradicate illiteracy in children by working with underdeveloped, underprivileged and underserved community schools. They approach societal change through early reading skills development and access to books in Ghana among children ages 6-18.
The BFA shipment contained e-readers (some with Merck Manuals pre-loaded for health care students and professionals), a Girls Empowerment Collection and solar reading lamps.
Container Captain Alero Tetevi write, “Poverty and inadequate social infrastructure create a vicious cycle that entraps children because they do not have access to good schools, skilled teachers, or teaching materials including books to read. Books For Africa in collaboration with Global Kids Organisation, is, consequently, playing a pivotal role in the development of children’s education in Ghana through the donation of books.”
The books were distributed to schools and community libraries and will increase access to books and reading among many children who did not have such an opportunity before.
