Free Book Event Draws Crowds in Mogadishu
Books For Africa was so pleased to partner with sponsor BetterWorld Trust and with the Hindis Project in Somalia to ship a container of books to Mogadishu last spring!
Road conditions and the summer holidays have delayed distribution to schools, but partner Saida Hassan has been no less busy!
She recently opened doors in Mogadishu to the broader community for a Free Book Event, where children were welcome to come and pick up books to take home. Books for all ages were available, but you’ll notice some extra special books in Somali that are a result of BFA’s custom printing initiative to make books in local languages available to recipients.
Saida indicated that the events generated remarkable enthusiasm, even garnering national media attention (you can check out Saida’s Somali-language interview here)! Following the broadcast, Saida said, she received calls from across the country requesting shipments to different regions.
As the school year resumes, she will continue student and school-focused distributions. We’re so pleased to see the happy faces of the recipients of these books!
