Books For Africa Partners with Ethiopian Diaspora to ship 33,000 books to Girls Schools in Ethiopia

Books For Africa was pleased to partner with Resources Enriching African Lives (REAL) to ship over 33,000 books valued at $484,000 to girl’s schools across Ethiopia.  This shipment was sent in June of 2025.  The container was received and distributed in Ethiopia.  Please click on the link below to view footage of the books being received in Ethiopia: Book.mp4 - Google Drive

BFA partnered with Tsehai Wodajo, Founder and CEO of REAL, to implement this project.  Other partners included Thomson Reuters (providing two brand new law libraries), the Federal Supreme Court of Ethiopia which provided overall logistics, the Oromia Supreme Court, the University Minneapolis Rotary Club, the Baxter Foundation, and many others.

REAL works to advance education of girls in Ethiopia to break out of the cycle of poverty and improve the lives of their families and communities.  We believe that when a girl is educated, a family, community, and nation are also transformed.  Research by CARE indicates that an extra year in primary school statistically boosts girls’ future wages by 10-20 percent.  Every additional year a girl spends in secondary school reportedly lifts her income by 15-25 percent.  Further, data shows that educated women marry five years later than women with no education, are more likely to know about sexuality and make better choices, and favor more education for their own children.

BFA commends the good work of REAL and looks forward to shipping more books to Ethiopia in the future with this organization.
