Books For Africa Hosts Kenyan Delegations

Books For Africa was honored to recently host two delegations from Kenyan universities at its Minnesota warehouse facility.  Both delegations expressed strong interest in securing books for their universities from BFA.

The first delegation was from the Kenya College of Accountancy and was led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Isaiah Wakindiki.  Kenya College of Accountancy prides itself as a premier business and technology university of choice in East Africa.  The second delegation was from Chuka Univeristy School of Law and was led by the Dean of the Law School, Dr. Wycliffe Nyachoti Otiso.  Dr. Otiso discussed with BFA officials opportunities for securing law books, as well as other university level books for Chuka University.

Hosting the Kenyan delegations were BFA board members and Kenyan community leaders Tom Gitaa and Lilian Otieno; BFA board members and Thomson Reuters officials John Elstad and Tammie Follett; Dr. John Vreyens of the University of Minnesota; Director of the BFA Law and Democracy Initiative Lane Ayres; BFA Warehouse Manager Roger Anderson; and BFA Executive Director Patrick Plonski.

Kenya is one of the largest recipients of books from BFA, receiving approximately five million books since 1988 and second only to Ethiopia (5.4 million) in books received.  Each container of university-level books carries holds approximately 18,000 books and an in-kind valuation of approximately $378,000.
