Books For Africa’s 2nd Annual Georgia Luncheon Draws Guests from Diplomacy, Sports, Business Worlds

Books For Africa recently held its 2nd annual Georgia fundraiser luncheon, which was a great success! Attended by a total of 115 guests, which included a diplomat, a state representative, board members, corporate sponsors, volunteers, and even a former NBA player, it was a chance to reaffirm our shared commitment to education across the continent.

Attendees heard presentations from volunteer and longtime supporter Perry Mitchell, and container captains Claude and Barbara Mayfield of the Zambezi Schoolbook Project. They also heard from BFA Board Members Nicky Mundabi and Mike Essien, as well as Georgia State Representative Segun Adeyima. In attendance were a number of corporate groups who support BFA as both volunteers and corporate sponsors, including KBR, Bank of America, LocumTenens.com, MK Management, HD Supply, LehrBook, Regions Bank, EMO Trans, Greif, Strategic Real Estate Partners LLC, and Superior Text.

The event raised nearly $80,000 in sponsorships, cash gifts, employer matches and pledges, part of which will be used in the near future to fund shipments to Djibouti and Ghana!

Said the Ambassador at the event, “Studies show that children who read with their parents have better academic and professional outcomes, but many students in Africa return from school to home without books to do so. That is where Books For Africa is making a difference. Your work helps bridge a critical gap, not just by sending books, but by affirming a belief that the futures of African children matter, that their dreams are worth investing in.”
