Container Departs for Kofi Annan Institue for Conflict Transformation in LIberia

Leaving the Books For Africa warehouse in Atlanta last week was a 40-foot sea container holding 22,000 books departing for the Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation Project in Monrovia, Liberia.  In addition to large quantities of books on general topics, a law/human rights library was provided courtesy of Thomson Reuters and the BFA Law & Democracy Initiative.

Thomson Reuters is the key force supporting the Law & Democracy Initiative, and has donated all the law and human rights libraries that have been shipped through the program.  Our thanks to Thomson Reuters for their outstanding support!

Pictured are Books For Africa staff in our Atlanta, Georgia warehouse loading this container of books for delivery to Liberia.

The Jack Mason Law & Democracy Initiative was founded in 2008 to address the scarcity of law and human rights books in Africa.  Since then, the initiative has shipped law and human rights to 21 African countries.

Former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan co-chairs the Law & Democracy Initiative with Former Vice-President Walter Mondale, and has been a long time BFA supporter.  We are excited to be delivering a container of books to this Liberian institute named in his honor!

With our 30th anniversary fast approaching, we are reminded of this video message sent by Kofi Annan in honor of our 20th anniversary. Nearly a decade later we have accomplished so much, sending as many books (20 million) in the past 10 years as we did in the first 20.  We are grateful for the ongoing support of Kofi Annan, and look forward to what is yet to be accomplished!
