Mushoshoma Primary School (Williams)

As part of the renovation efforts at the Mushoshoma Primary School, a new library will be created in partnership with Books For Africa, the largest supplier of donated textbooks in the continent. Along with the purchase a 40-foot shipping container, loaded with 20 pallets of requested textbooks and reference books, 50 laptop computers, and assorted school supplies. Once delivered, the container will be set on a concrete foundation and converted into a permanent library with a covered concrete patio.

The efforts to renovate the Mushoshoma Primary School in Bakasa, Zimbabwe are the result of a question, David Williams, the project’s Container Captain, asked last year of Matt Manuwa. Matt is a working safari guide in Zimbabwe who attended Mushoshoma Primary and Secondary Schools as part of his own education — giving him a personal connection to the community these renovations serve. When I asked him "Where do the children of your village attend school?" he shared some videos of the school, and the conditions were disturbing. I contacted friends in Zimbabwe who work with Great Plains Conservation Foundation, and that led to a wonderful, successful partnership.

The 1,300 students attend a campus with 15 classrooms, each with a capacity of 50students. As a result, only half of the students are able to attend classes inside.
