Building a Global Book Ecosystem in Ghana

Every child deserves books. Every community deserves a reading ecosystem.

Together, we can help build a future where children across Ghana have books of their own, communities have strong reading spaces, and families have the resources to create a lifelong culture of reading.

Starting in North Tongu

Books Beyond Borders – Ghana will bring the Global Book Ecosystem Model to communities in Ghana, beginning with a pilot in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

This initiative goes beyond simply delivering books. It connects children, families, schools, educators, libraries, community leaders, and partners to create a sustainable network that encourages children to become lifelong readers.

The pilot will focus on young children ages 4–7, establishing reading opportunities in schools and community settings.

Books Alone Don't Create Readers. Ecosystems Create Readers.

The Global Book Ecosystem Model is built around five connected pillars:

  • Books – Age-appropriate books children can read, keep, share, and enjoy.

  • Libraries & Reading Spaces – Accessible places where children and families can read and learn.

  • Learning – Training and professional development for educators, librarians, and community leaders.

  • Technology – Digital resources that complement books and expand learning opportunities.

  • Partnerships – Local and international organizations working together to create sustainable change.

Our goal is to put books directly into children's hands while helping build strong reading habits at home, in schools, and throughout their communities.
