Supporting Vulnerable Youth in South Africa

FHI 360's Capacity Development and Support (CDS) Program has been hard at work distributing a BFA shipment of about 40,000 books to vulnerable youth across five provinces in South Africa.  The books have been used to establish libraries, play centers and resource centers and to improve school resources for young people up to age 24.

Some books were also donated directly to caregivers themselves, so that books would be available for household reading for infants and young children to develop their imagination and language skills, as well as enhance caregiver-child bonds.

As the recipients at Grassroots Soccer (pictured at right) said in a letter of thanks, "Your investment of books has brought joy, growth and dignity to many families across South Africa."
