The African Union Ambassador to the U.S., Hilda Suka-Mafudze, will speak at a Books for Africa fundraising event Wednesday. The event will be held at the University Club at 420 Summit Ave., from 5 to 7 p.m, and will also be streamed over zoom for those who cannot or prefer not to attend in person at http://us02web.zoom.us/j/83031584984.

The African Union and Books for Africa, which is based in St. Paul, partnered to advance education and literacy in Africa. Books for Africa has shipped over 52 million books to the continent and has served all 55 African countries.

“We welcome and appreciate this opportunity to partner together to ensure that more children, as well as adults, have access to information and the latest and most up-to-date information,” the ambassador said in a statement. “We all know that knowledge is power. We appreciate the power of education as a means for Africa to achieve its fullest potential.”

The two organizations are discussing further partnership projects, including printing books in local languages for children across the continent.
