Global Effort Sends Books To Lumwana, Zambia

A Books For Africa shipment of 22,000 books, which left our Warehouse in August, was recently received in Zambia!  Container captain Martyn Howie led a successful fundraising effort from his home in Lumwana, Zambia, building support from around the globe for the Lumwana Book Project.  Donors included local businesses in Zambia, as well as supporters from Hong Kong, New Zealand, UAE, Australia, and beyond!  This 40 foot container of books will establish or support libraries at 12 schools in northwestern Zambia.

Martyn tells us that “Sister Ethel, my wife and I have started to share the books with schools in the community.  All is going great and we are so impressed with the quality of the books… Hopefully we can start up another project in the new year!”

Holy Cross Convent School students enjoy their new BFA books!

Books For Africa is proud to be a part of this great project, and we thank the great team in Lumwana for their dedicated work to advance literacy and education in Zambia!
