Honorary Libraries Program

Books For Africa can help you establish a library in Africa in someone's honor or memory.  This is a meaningful way to celebrate a special occasion, honor someone special, or memorialize a loved one.

"My son Eric passed away on January 31, 2009, but his memory lives on through his memorial libraries in Rwanda.  These libraries have opened up the world to many eager learners both children and adult.  Eric would be so proud!"

Chair, BFA Honorary Library Program

You can establish a library in Africa in someone’s honor or memory for $2,000. This is a meaningful way to celebrate a special occasion, honor someone special, or memorialize a loved one.

The steps are:

  1. Contact BFA to establish the project by naming your library and making the first donation or paying in full.
  2. If you are expecting numbers of donors, inform friends and family to donate to BFA with your project name in the memo. BFA can provide you with information to give your donors about how to donate.
  3. When BFA has received a minimum of $2,000, we order a plaque for inclusion in the container you have chosen to support with your donation.
  4. The shipment is received in Africa, the plaque is hung in a library, and the recipient reports back to BFA with a photo.
