Project Overview

Empowering the communities through quality education is one of HACE-NGO’s objectives in order to enable communities to have access higher quality educational facilities and increase educational opportunities in Somaliland. During the preparation period of the project, HACE-NGO visited Amoud and Hargeisa Universities which are currently the biggest universities in Somaliland. They told us their needs for improved resources through this project.

Amoud University is a highly respected public university located in the vibrant city of Borama, Awdal Region in Somaliland. Established in 1996, it is a leading institution in Somaliland that is committed to providing exceptional education and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship among its students. Amoud University is a union of intellectuals dedicated to the development and wellbeing of the society through merging of ideas and dissemination of knowledge for the benefit of humanity. Amoud University has postgraduate programs including Faculties of Agriculture and Environment; Business and Economics; Computing and ICT; Engineering; Education and Sharia and Law. It has also undergraduate programs including Schools of Medicine and Surgery; Nursing and Midwifery; Laboratory Technology; Dentistry; Public Health and Nutrition and Pharmacy.

Amoud University has two libraries in which one is located at the campus of Amoud University in Borama town and second library is located at the main campus of the Amoud University in Amoud Village outside Borama town. The two libraries are still very limited textbooks and other education materials.

The University of Hargeisa is also public higher educational institution located in Hargeisa city of Somaliland. The University was established in the year 2000 with only two faculties. Currently, it consists of 10 Colleges (Agriculture, Environment, Veterinary, Business, Economics, Statistics, Education, Medicine & health science, Social science and Sharia & Law) with more than 30 undergraduate programs. It has a school of Graduate Studies, which now provides more than ten postgraduate programs.

Then, we have discussed with them the expenses needed expenses for unloading pallets of the books from the sea containers and transporting them to their final destinations/libraries and we have agreed that they are ready to set aside the cost for any necessary expenses related to unloading the books from Berbera Port to their final destination. Finally, we signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with the Officials of Amoud and Hargeisa Universities.
