Sanitation and Literacy Ghana project (Rosemond Owens) - Ghana

Project Goal: $10,300

Current Progress: $3,265 (32.00%)

June 2019 Update: Container Captain Rosemond Owens is celebrating her 50th birthday by raising funds for a memorial library to be delivered through this project!  Rosemond tells us:

For my 50th birthday, I want to build a library in memory of my grandpa, Nana Kofi Mensah (Nana Chief). As someone who supported girls education, he ensured that all his daughters had a good education. He sent his kids to school and because of that, our parents took us all to school.

For my 50th birthday I want to build a library in his honor  so that other girls in the village can learn to read and develop a love for learning and fulfill their potential. Fifty cents will sponsor one book to Ghana! Thank you so much for your support.

Sanitation and Literacy Ghana (SALG) is partnering with Books for Africa to raise funds to ship books to Ghana. Our mission is  to advance literacy efforts in Ghana by providing books and others resources to organizations and groups leading literacy efforts. SALG aims to improve the quality of education in Africa through the provision of literacy materials that enables students to acquire knowledge and achieve their potential. This is mainly due to a lack of books and resources.

Strategic Objectives:

  • Equip public schools in Ghana with books and educational materials to improve literacy for the poorest low performing schools in Ghana.
  • Establish and equip Community Libraries with books and internet access to serve as hubs of learning and enterprise in the poorest communities.
  • Enable students from the poorest backgrounds to be educated and be equipped with literacy materials to achieve knowledge and achieve their potential
