Girls Empowerment Collections

The goal of the Girls Empowerment Collection is to inspire girls to pursue their goals.  The collection was created in response to African teachers and librarians’ desire to engage girls with relevant and empowering books.

Books For Africa's Girls Empowerment Collection consists of 27 brand new titles, including picture books and novels that appeal to girls at the primary, secondary, and college levels.  See the full title list in the collection here!

You can sponsor one collection for $500. Consider doing so in honor of a special person in your life, and we will send them a card!

Or, you can make a donation of any amount to the Girls Empowerment Collection fund, and we will provide books from the collection to organizations who could not otherwise procure them.

The UNESCO Institute for Statistics confirms that in sub-Saharan Africa, one in every three children, adolescents and youth are out of school - with girls more likely to be excluded than boys. For every 100 boys of primary school age out of school, there are 123 girls denied the right to education. The Girls Empowerment Collection provides information and encouragement to African girls.

" We would be absolutely honored to accept the books focused on female empowerment. This year we wanted to highlight literacy by focusing on girls as the target population. The other BFA director and I are so excited to work each day towards a brighter future for the girls and young women of Eswatini. Thank you for thinking of us as well. We look forward to the books coming and the amazing impact that it will have for our students in general."
