Girls Education in Kinshasa (Niclette Mundabi) - Democratic Republic of The Congo

Project Goal: $29,000

Current Progress: $18,919.92 (65.00%)

Hello Friends,

As a devoted member of the Books For Africa board of directors, I continue to find ways in which we can positively impact the lives of children on the continent. This year,  for my 35th birthday, I will serve as captain for a container of French books which will be shipped to a girl's orphanage in Kinshasa, DRC.

By leading this project I wish to honor my Grandmother who is/was a source of my strength!  Towards the end of her life we were both living in France, during this time she shared with me some stories of her very dynamic life including the fact that she was a 12 year old child bride whose father had decided to marry her off to a man that she did not love (my Grandfather). She was wed without her consent and was not allowed her to complete her education; this was her life-long regret. Her story shaped my love and support for women's rights, girls education and the freedom to choose who one loves.

I'm working with Books for Africa to ship a container of French books in support of girls education in my home country where 52.7% of girls aged 5 to 17 do not attend school. Together we can empower these young women with the tools of education that they need to succeed. Thank you for your support!
