It costs $9,000 for BFA to ship a 40-foot container (approximately 35,000 books) to a sea port in Africa. Inland rates vary and are dependent on quotes from shippers. Please contact our offices to get inland quotes. BFA welcomes shipment sponsors of all kinds:
1) Financial sponsorship. Sponsors contribute all or part of the cost of shipment, and may designate a recipient country or NGO.
2) Project sponsorship. Sponsors manage all aspects of a shipment, including fundraising, book collection, packing and shipping, using only technical assistance from Books For Africa.
3) Customized sponsorship. Contact BFA to discuss how you or your group can design a project to help get books to kids in Africa. From small projects, such as the elementary school that just contributed 54,121 pennies, to large, like the returned Peace Corps volunteer's plan to send books to every school in the small African country where he served, BFA welcomes any level of involvement.
