Health & Wellness Initiative
Around the world, the link between literacy, poverty, and poor health has been well established. By providing individuals with vital health information, they are empowered to make better decisions and avoid high-risk behaviors. By teaching women, in particular, the health of the whole family can be improved, as she is likely to practice better sanitation, provide better nutrition for the household, and seek out immunizations for her children.
Books For Africa is now positioned to begin distribution to address these targeted health needs through several key partnership with organizations with established service delivery systems. BFA will obtain current medical and health books to include in containers of general textbooks. General textbooks will be disbursed to area schools to improve overall education levels. General health books will be incorporated into village center libraries and medical texts and reference books will go to village health centers and clinics, where partnering organizations will provide training in their use.
Impact
This program will ensure that schools, clinics, hospitals and community centers will have access to current and accurate health information to support better ongoing health care and the treatment of diseases and injuries.
