Book Donation Guidelines
The majority of the books sent to Africa are
textbooks, primary through college level, and leisure reading. Frequently requested books
include:
- Popular Fiction & Non-fiction reading books in soft and hard cover.
- Primary, secondary, and post-secondary textbooks.
- Reference books such as encyclopedias and dictionaries 1995 or newer.
- Medical, nursing, and law textbooks.
- School supplies—paper, pencils, pens, etc. are always welcome.
Please consider these categories when making a donation:
- Good Physical Condition—new or gently used, quality books.
- Age—15 years old or newer for textbooks.
- Content—Subject matter is relevant to an African reader.
Please DO NOT SEND:
- American History or American Civics
- Cookbooks or home decorating books
- Wedding planning books
- Books that are too ethnocentric in their point of view, such as
the biography of Abraham Lincoln or the history of New Hampshire
- Spanish or German books
- Any magazines
It costs BFA approximately 38 cents to send each book. Please
consider making a contribution to cover the cost of sending each book
you donate. Please send financial donations separately to avoid loss in
our large book donations.
